Heart and Vessel Diagnostics
At the Cardiac Surgery Center of Pirogov Clinic, SPbU, you can have a complete examination of the heart and vessels: from ECG, echocardiography and Holter monitoring to stress tests, vascular ultrasound, CT angiography and coronary angiography. Doctors use the results to assess the heart and choose a treatment method.
Diagnostic methods
- Electrocardiography (ECG)A quick, painless method that records the electrical activity of the heart: rhythm, conduction, signs of ischemia and a previous heart attack.

How the examination is chosen
The examination goes from simple to complex. It starts with an ECG and echocardiography; Holter monitoring is added for occasional complaints, and stress tests and stress echocardiography when ischemia is suspected. The neck arteries, aorta and leg vessels are assessed with duplex scanning. When the anatomy needs to be seen precisely, CT of the heart and vessels is prescribed, and coronary angiography remains the «gold standard» in diagnosing coronary heart disease: when indicated, blood flow is measured during it (FFR) and the artery is viewed from the inside (IVUS, OCT).
